Featured Community Member of the Month: Kimberly Azpeitia
Miss Kimberly Star joined our studio recently. She's an amazing person. Into real estate and coffee, we took some time to catch up with her and share more about her practice. Our Studio is fortunate to have such a talented and diverse community. We hope to continue to share and grow. Enjoy meeting Miss Kimberly Star! Yes that is her real name!
Our student feature is aimed at letting our members shine for you to get a sense of our community. We also hope you find our community to be relatable, interesting, and inviting. To help do this we spotlight a little about our members and hope you get to meet them one day! We asked her to share a pose with us, and had an impromptu interview where she told me more about who she is, how she began her journey to aerial yoga, and some of her favorite things.

This is the Diaper Wrap that all beginner students learn to do to invert. This pose is done with a yoga hammock in this photo. Miss Kimberly let us know that she loves the relief for her back that inverting offers her. She began her practice to help alleviate spine pain.
Hey Kim, thanks so much for letting us feature you as our student of the month. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Kimberly Star Jackson Aspesia. I hated my middle name growing up, but now I love it. I've raised a family, 3 kids, and work full time. I'm in the process of opening up a brick and mortar for Jackson's Brew, my coffee business. I'm focusing on myself and my selfcare practice, recently, because I had a back injury. I had an MRI and found out I had some low back herniations. I didn't want to live in pain, and I wanted to figure out how to feel better. I didn't know I could do aerial yoga because I'm a curvy girl. I didn't want to get the steroid shots, and I determined to help heal myself.
So how did you find your way to a yoga practice?
I was connected with you (Amanda) on social media, and I wanted to see if aerial would help me with my back pain. I took the stretch and traction class. I came in pain that day and I remember telling you I don't know if I can do this- and I did and I do yoga at home now too. I can put my shoes, socks, and pants on and I don't have to take anti-inflammatory meds. I'm a curvy girl, and I'm happy to say it was a great experience for me. I've lost 11 lbs, but I've also taken this as an opportunity to do a cleanse, and I've given up alcohol and I feel amazing.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of doing detoxes for resetting the body, thanks for joining me on the detox. It's always nice to have some fitness and health conscious friends to share that experience with!
Can you tell us about things that you love, that inspire you, or that you'd like to share with us?
I'm a bit of a nerd. I spent 3 weeks in Italy in 2014 cycling, and it was an amazing experience! Picadillo means a little bit! I love the ocean and and I'm an Aquarius. I'm a sapiosexual, and love learning new things!!!
